why I unfollowed my favorite fashion bloggers for 3 weeks
What is super special about each and every one of us is our unique sense of style. Even if we all got the same piece of clothing, the results would be vastly different. We all would style it differently. When we struggle in creating new art, we can always rely on fashion bloggers and experts. Unfortunately, that’s where we can get carried away and become more like them and less like us. Today, I propose we go back to our roots and get creative with what we have within us. The courage to mix specific patterns. The ability to go out of our own comfort zone. Today, I call all of us out to find ourselves amongst the dizzying speed of new trends.
Today marks 3 weeks since I’ve un-followed all of my favorite fashion bloggers on Instagram. That’s 18 women who I trust and look up to when it comes to styling tips and tricks. Without giving it much thought, I was there to copy their taste…
That was brought to my attention and I paused there for a minute. It definitely caught me off guard. That is so unlike me to chase after other people’s style when I have one of my own.
After speaking to my husband, he reminded me of how I caught his eye in the first place. I think it’s super sweet and cute that he loved the way I dressed. He encouraged me to stay the Julie that he fell in love with.
I have to say that these past three weeks have been refreshing and motivating. I looked through my old photos and took a closer look at the way I would express myself through clothing. It was inspiring to see how I would shop for the things I TRULY loved and the things that TRULY described me as a person. I want to always be true to myself as the fashion world changes with every season.
Do I miss scrolling down my IG feed and seeing my favorite fashion bloggers doing their thing? I do! They are all different from one another and I appreciate their honesty. By the time you’re done reading this, I probably already followed them back, haha.
Going back to our roots can feel like starting all over again. Maybe your style changed within the last few years? You are either reminiscing over your 90’s hair or processing an order with a store you’ve never shopped before. Either way, go back and retrace the steps that brought you here today. Your story is unique. Your story shapes your appearance.
